Flourishing between the cracks
I was pulling up weeds the other day on my path, noticing how perfect my neighbours lawns and paths were. They can look beautiful, but also a bit sad and soulless.
My path, well, it’s got a few wild plants between the paving. Still tidy, but softer, more alive. And that made me think about how we chase perfection in life. Editing out the messy bits, trying to look like everything is under control. But nature doesn’t work like that. Nothing grows in straight lines.
The same with people. The moments that shape us rarely come from things going perfectly. They come from mistakes, uncomfortable conversations, setbacks. Those are the cracks. And that’s where growth begins.
As someone who works with leaders and teams, I see that the strongest ones aren’t those with all the answers. They’re the ones willing to say, I don’t know. Willing to be curious, to get it wrong and own it. They are willing to let others see that they aren’t perfect.
Maybe authenticity is just letting ourselves be whole instead of polished. Sometimes the most interesting gardens, and maybe the most interesting people, are the ones where something beautiful has been brave enough to grow between the cracks.
